Hyzaar is primarily used to lower blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. Losartan potassium is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), while hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. Together, they work to relax blood vessels and reduce fluid retention, helping to lower blood pressure. Mechanism of Action: Losartan potassium blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels, thereby causing blood pressure to rise. Hydrochlorothiazide increases urine production and helps eliminate excess fluid from the body, further lowering blood pressure.
