Dabigatran

Dabigatran is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs called direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). It is primarily used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat) and to prevent and treat blood clots in certain conditions. Dabigatran works by inhibiting the activity of thrombin, an enzyme involved in blood clot formation. By blocking thrombin, dabigatran helps to prevent the formation of blood clots and reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation.
